Meet Our New Intern

Get to know a little about me:

I was born and raised in a little ski town in Wyoming – Jackson Hole. Growing up in a town where outdoor activities thrive made me an absolute ski fanatic and lover of the outdoors. When I am not studying for school, participating in extra-curricular activities, or interning, I am most likely adventuring the outdoors with my friends. Oregon has an array of beautiful areas to explore – a big reason I decided to come study at the University of Oregon. A fun fact about myself: my mom is from Chile, so I posses dual-citizenship there. This gave me the opportunity to spend a lot of time in South America when I was growing up, which enabled me to become fluent in Spanish.

Why I chose to pursue public relations and my career aspirations:

Being someone that loves sports and the outdoors, I went into college wanting to be a physical therapist. After a couple of years in school and studying abroad in Argentina, I realized that I really enjoy meeting and interacting with people. I decided to pursue a degree in public relations because I can use my social skills to help people and companies. I absolutely love everything that has to do with public relations and have never looked back since I chose to switch the focus of my studies.

My overarching career goal is to work for a public relations agency that works with companies that are involved in the ski and mountain industries, or to do in-house public relations or marketing for a major ski company, ski resort or Red Bull Creative – it’s communication and brand marketing sector.

Public relations experience:

The School of Journalism and Communications at the University of Oregon offers a variety of resources for its students to gain hands-on career experience. Last year, I was a part of Allen Hall Public Relations – a student-run public relations agency at the University of Oregon. My account team worked closely with a nonprofit organization, The Friendship Foundation for International Students. This past summer, I was a public relations and marketing intern at Funk/Levis & Associates. Both positions made me learn a lot about public relations that I look forward to utilizing and improving here at Vox.

My favorite online resource for PR and industry news:

I absolutely love keeping myself updated with Adweek. It’s a great resource to find out company breakthroughs and what businesses are doing to be innovative, brand themselves and succeed. I also really enjoy Forbes, Fast Company and Digiday.

Favorite piece of career advice:

Before I left for college, my dad told me to stay true to myself. This advice has stuck with me in my journey pursuing public relations. It’s important to dig deep in yourself and figure out what you want from life – the happier you are, the more likely you will attain your goals and succeed.

Favorite restaurant in the Eugene-Area:

I’m obsessed with the restaurant Izakaya Meiji Company because it has an exciting ambience and serves Japanese tapas that are out of this world. It’s also a whiskey bar, so it has an amazing cocktail menu – make sure to get its most popular drink and my favorite, the Painkiller.
